'Animal House' Stars: Where Are They Now?

Comedy Classic Celebrates 30th Anniversary With DVD Release

UPDATED: 4:04 pm EDT October 28, 2008

Sure, it's been 30 years since the release of "Animal House" in theaters: But no matter how many years since the box office hit was enshrined into the pop culture hall of fame, being a part of the film's history still makes cast members like Karen Allen want to, well, "Shout."

"'Animal House' is the film that will not stop celebrating itself. It's like every six months there's a big celebration of it," said Allen, laughing in a recent @ The Movies interview. "It's so much fun because I enjoyed working with so many actors in the film and have stayed friends with many of them."

Allen, of course, came back into the public eye in a big way this past summer reprising her "Raiders of the Lost Ark" role of Marion Ravenwood for the long-anticipated "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull." But what ever became of the film's other stars, as well as the comedy's talented crew?

Although it was released on July 28, 1978, "Animal House" is officially celebrating its 30th anniversary this week with a special re-release of the film on DVD (Universal Home Entertainment) Tuesday -- which among other things, catches up with several alumni of Delta House and their frat enemies, the Omegas.

Sadly, not all of the major cast members are around to join in the celebration.

John Belushi, who made famous the role of John "Bluto" Blutarsky, died in 1982 at the age of 33. And John Vernon, who brought his classic bad-guy edge to Dean Wormer, died in 2005 at age 72. Douglas Kenney, one of the film's writers, who also played the supporting role of Stork, died in 1980 at the age of 32.

Click into our slideshow to see what the surviving members of "Animal House" are up to today. Does DeWayne Jessie still make people want to "Shout" as Otis Day? What sort of fame did the actor who played frat boy Chip Diller achieve after taking the paddle and reluctantly requesting, "Thank you sir, may I have another?"

What are you waiting for? Grab your togas, do the gator and toast 30 years of "Animal House."
