Local Pooch Wins Best In Show

Westminster Dog Show Won By Baying Breed

POSTED: 8:52 am EST February 13, 2008

Uno is best in show. Noisiest, too.

Watch: Meet Uno's Family

The 3-year-old beagle from North Carolina made history at the Westminster Kennel Club show, becoming the first of his breed ever to win the top prize.

Uno is co-owned by Jon Woodring, a beagle breeder in Advance.

He was clearly the fan favorite and got a standing ovation from the sold-out crowd at Madison Square Garden.

Uno became numero uno by beating out two poodles, a Sealyham terrier, a Weimaraner, an Australian shepherd and an Akita. He celebrated by jumping on his handler, baying and chewing on the microphones of reporters who tried to interview his winning crew.

Handler Aaron Wilkerson called Uno a "people's dog" and a "merry little hound."
